The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, along with seven key members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for questioning on allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
A police letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Uzainu Abdullahi of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), directed the ADC State Chairman to produce El-Rufai and the other leaders at the State CID on September 8 to clarify allegations reported against them.
Other individuals named in the summons include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka 30), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka Mikiya).
The summons follows a violent incident last week where political thugs attacked a coalition meeting of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and ADC in Kaduna, which left several party members injured. The ADC office in Kaduna was sealed by security operatives hours before the Northwest leadership’s planned commiseration visit to the state chapter.
The police have cited the need to maintain public peace and order amid ongoing investigations, while opposition members allege political suppression and intimidation. The Kaduna State government and El-Rufai have engaged in public exchanges, with accusations and denials over the recent unrest.
This development underscores the heightened political tensions and the increasingly fraught atmosphere surrounding the region’s opposition parties ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
